Program Overview
If you enjoy sports and physical activity, the human body, solving problems, caring for patients, and working with people then consider a health sciences career in Athletic Training.
The Master’s degree in Athletic Training is a 24-month professional program that provides rigorous and comprehensive preparation for students seeking a health care career in athletic training. Athletic trainers (ATs) are multi-skilled health care professionals who collaborate with physicians as part of the health care team to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. For those who crave dynamic, exciting, and challenging work within the healthcare field, athletic training is an incredibly rewarding career with a positive employment outlook.
Athletic trainers are the healthcare professionals who use their skills in patient-care settings where no two days or job settings are alike. Scrub in with a surgeon, save lives diagnosing exertional heat stroke at a summer marathon, help workers safely perform on a factory assembly line, treat patients in a clinical rehabilitation setting, put prevention programs in place at a local high school, or provide healthcare to an intercollegiate or professional sports team.
The UW-Madison MSAT program is Wisconsin’s Big Ten AT Program. We offer clinical experiences with athletes competing at the highest level of intercollegiate sport in America’s No 1 College Sports City. Clinical education is guided by a talented collection of athletic training professionals dedicated to preparing professionals for the future of athletic training. As a comprehensive university UW-Madison offers countless collaborative interprofessional education and care opportunities. MSAT students learn from physicians in the UW School of Medicine and Public Health in the classroom, operating room, and athletic healthcare setting and learn alongside other health science students (e.g. Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physician Assistant). The MSAT Program offers clinical opportunities that span the entire program and include 2nd year immersive clinical placements in athletic training health care settings across the country.
