Kevin Crombie, a dissertator in Dr. Kelli Koltyn’s Exercise Psychology Lab, was recently selected to receive the Dr. Raymond A. Weiss Research Endowment Grant from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). The Dr. Raymond A. Weiss Research Endowment Grant has been established for ACSM student members wishing to advance research into the health benefits (physical, mental, and emotional) of physical activity and sports. Crombie plans to do just that as he will use the funds to conduct a study examining psychological and endocannabinoid responses to exercise and psychosocial stressors in adults with and without posttraumatic stress disorder. It is Crombie’s hope that the results will improve the current understanding of the psychobiological mechanisms responsible for exercise-induced improvements in mental health outcomes, in addition to serving as a scaffolding for the continued design and development of novel treatment strategies for adults with PTSD.
