VHH Research Grant Application

Research projects are scholarly works that clearly will contribute to increased knowledge and understanding of factors affecting women’s involvement in physical activity, movement, health and the female body in culture.

If you plan to submit an application, a letter of intent is REQUIRED. Please fill out a letter of intent using the online form. Research Grants, Student & Sport clubs, Special Project & Visiting Scholars, and New Course Development require a letter of intent be submitted by JANUARY 15, 2022.

The committee may contact applicants for additional information or interviews.

Applications for research funding must contain the following information:

  1. A cover page with the proposal title, name(s) of the Principal Investigator(s)/Faculty Mentor and address, phone number, fax number and e-mail address for the contact person.
  2. A two-page proposal for the project. Within the two pages, the proposal must address:
    • Brief description of the project and its purpose.
    • How the proposed research relates to women’s physical education, activity or movement and the female body in culture.
    • Potential impact of the project on women in general.
    • Evidence that supports the need for the proposed project and the unique contribution the findings will make to our understanding of women’s physical activity, movement and/or the female body in culture.
    • Plans for ongoing support of the project.
    • A brief description of those involved in the project, including the number of women students and faculty that will be involved in conducting the research.
  3. Literature Cited (optional).
  4. A resume/curricula vitae for the Project Coordinator/Principal Investigator(s) (limited to a maximum length of 5 pages).
  5. A budget for the project. (Please complete the attached Excel spreadsheet.) Complete the appropriate budget categories for the project and provide detail or justification when necessary. Please upload a completed Budget Sheet 2022.  ONLY ENTER INFORMATION IN THE SHADED/COLORED FIELDS. An Example Budget Sheet is provided here for your convenience.
    Please note:

    • Benefits will be automatically calculated and added to the budget request for personnel salaries (faculty, staff, graduate student or student hourly).
    • Maximum graduate student support will be 50% appointment for 9-months.
    • Tenured faculty are not eligible for summer salary coverage.
    • Travel funds are limited to $1000 for domestic travel and $2000 for international travel and should be justified as related to the project.
  6. If you have previously received support from this fund, you must provide a 1-2 page progress report for any projects still in process or a final report of the last project funded from this source within the last 4 years.

All components of the application, except the Excel Spreadsheet, should be merged into 1 PDF document. Submit the PDF and the Excel Spreadsheets with the following format for naming the files: Lastname_YEAR(YYYY).pdf and Lastname_YEAR(YYYY).xls(x)

VHH Research Grant Application

The Henry family has been a long time supporter to the School of Education. As such, we are exploring ways to highlight projects the grant supports. If your grant project is selected, will the Virginia Horne Henry fund support be acknowledged or highlighted? If so how?

All projects receiving support from this fund must notify the VHH Committee upon completion of the project and provide a 1 page final report within 60 days of completion. If you have an open project funded by VHH, please include a 1 page progress report with this application.
