Three people with ties to UW-Madison’s physical education teacher education program are co-presenting a session on Friday, Oct. 26 at the Wisconsin Health and Physical Education Convention.
The presentation is titled, “Building Relationships to Teach All Students,” and it is being delivered by Dan Timm, Chandra Anderson and Jessica Landergott.
Timm is a faculty associate with the School of Education’s Department of Kinesiology, which houses the physical education teacher education program. He will be delivering the presentation with Anderson, a physical education teacher at Madison Memorial High School and a UW-Madison alumnus (physical Education, 1996), and Landergott, a student currently studying with the Department of Kinesiology’s physical education teacher education program.
Timm explains that idea for the presentation came out of Landergott’s multicultural field experience work during the fall of 2017, while working with Anderson at Madison’s Toki Middle School. Landergott was a physical education assistant in Anderson’s classes at Toki last year.
The multicultural field experience provides physical education students with opportunities to work with individuals from cultural backgrounds different than their own background.
“The three of us understand a key to successful teaching goes beyond teaching content and includes teachers making connections with students and, as the title indicates, building relationships with students,” says Timm. “In the presentation, I will give an overview of the multicultural field experience and Chandra and Jessica will share their experiences and how they connected with students.”
The Wisconsin Health and Physical Education Convention is taking place at the Glacier Canyon Conference Center at the Wilderness Resort Hotel in Wisconsin Dells.
